I needed to get out of the office to prepare for a sharing at MHI this saturday and I’ve been hearing a fair deal about Chye Seng Huat Hardware Coffee Bar (Gosh that’s a long name!).
Now the flagship store for the people behind Papa Palheta and Loysel’s Toy, the establishment certainly presented a novel experience; finding the unassuming building, walking through the large metal doors and being greeted by an extremely charming interior that reminded me very much of Seven Seeds in Melbourne.
I ordered a latte and the beef patties (essentially meatballs)
Finally a cup of coffee that comes close to the ones I had in Melbourne… I even broke my 1 cup a day rule and had a Cappuccino later on.
The Latte ($5.50)
The beef patties came with 3 different mustards: English, wholegrain and Dijon.
Overall, not too bad. ($13.00)
Definitely a worthwhile trip. It’s only been around for a month but it’s already gained quite a large following.

It’s rather apt to celebrate National Day by going around Singapore eating. Ok, maybe it wasn’t really all around Singapore but Joel still planned a pretty good lineup for us.
First stop: Seng Hong Coffeeshop. 58 Lengkok Bahru.
The man responsible for the trip. You can see his (much nicer) food photos here: WWJE’s Makan Tripping II photos on Flickr.
Steamed Kaya Bread. The bread was super soft and the butter was excessive (in a good way).
Stop 2: Chong Wah Coffee & Restaurant. Blk 28 Hoy Fatt Road #01-24.
We were supposed to have Nasi Padang at this stop but it was closed. Nevertheless, the beef brisket noodles which was also on this list happened to be the highlight of the trip to me.
Stop 3: Ghim Moh Food Centre. Blk 20 Ghim Moh Road. I’m rather familiar with Ghim Moh so no surprises here, but still definitely worth the travelling (and calories).

Stop 4: Beautyworld Food Centre. 144 Upp Bukit Timah Road. The main party had time to kill before heading to East Coast (I had to jump ship at this point) so we ended up going somewhere nearby Ghim Moh that wasn’t crowded. This stop once again was no stranger to me, but it brought back good memories when I was at TTC.
